- NEW: Curry Night - Gümbet
Fancy a Curry? As a lover of Indian curry myself, I am sure there must be a number of like minded souls out there somewhere who would like a curry but have no idea where to go for one? Consequently I am trying to organise a curry club for the winter, and the first event is planned for this Saturday, 21st November. With poppadom and dips to start, followed by either chicken tikka masala or chicken korma, with rice, and one local drink, for a special fixed price of 20TL per head. Reservations are essential, please contact me to make your booking or for any further information. The venue will be the Bombay Cottage in Gümbet, next to the Queen Hotel. New to this location this year, you can now enjoy your curry in warm, comfortable surroundings, away from the banging music of 'Bar Street', so if that’s been stopping you before then you now have no excuse! I would like to make this a regular event, so all ideas and suggestions are welcome. Contact: Peter, 0538 231 70 47,

| - Kurban Bayram (Festival of Sacrifice) |
- Kurban Bayram (Festival of Sacrifice)
Kurban Bayram, or the "Festival of Sacrifice" or "Greater Eid", is a Muslim Holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God. Men, women, and children are expected to dress in their finest clothing to perform Eid prayer in a large congregation in open area or mosque. Muslims who can afford to do so sacrifice their best domestic animals (usually sheep, but also camels, cows and goats) as a symbol of Ibrahim's sacrifice. The sacrificed animals have to meet certain age and quality standards or else the animal is considered an unacceptable sacrifice. Generally, these must be at least a year old. -Text adapted from Wikipedia. Please note that banks and government offices will be closed from Thursday afternoon, and will re-open on Tuesday 1st December.

What Happens During A Reiki Treatment? Receiving a Reiki treatment is very simple and lasts sixty minutes. You simply lie down on a couch and relax. There is nothing to do and nothing to think about. No clothing, other than shoes, needs to be removed.
During a Reiki treatment energy is drawn through the hands of the practitioner and into the body of the recipient. It increases the vibrational frequency of the whole system, having a deeply relaxing effect that increases the flow of energy within the body; reducing pain and stress, clearing blockages, detoxifying the cells and bringing to the surface all that has remained hidden in the subconscious. Reiki works holistically and as it has a consciousness of its own will always go to the level (physical, mental or emotional) where it is most needed to bring the person back into balance. The number of treatments required depends upon the root cause of the problem and the amount of energy needed to restore well-being, but you also might want to treat yourself to an hour of pure relaxation.
Please contact me for more information.

Ever get bored of those plain white (or magnolia) walls in your room? Would you like to bring a bit of colour to your life? I now have available a European trained interior designer who can change your living space at very reasonable rates. Maybe just a different colour on one wall? A full re-paint? Or some artwork perhaps? It’s all well within her scope, I am very impressed by what I've seen so far.

P.S. 'normal' painting and decorating also carried out at good rates, ready to start now! Contact: Peter on 0538 231 7047 or e-mail

Our first feature this week comes from a multi-national team who have started a project looking to provide a multi-purpose "International Library and Cultural Centre". The team invite you to take part in a survey aimed at measuring interest in a plan to provide a multi-purpose space for all residents and visitors on the Bodrum peninsula to participate in cultural activities.
The plan is an attempt to bring about the re birth of Bodrum as a place of cultural and artistic worth, rather than just a place known for its sea and sun.
Ideas of focus include:
- An international library and information centre providing access to sources of information for students, researchers and businesses
- Art and cultural activities such as music, theatre, painting and sculpture, literature, educational projects, exhibitions and workshops
- Life Long Learning for people of all ages
- Activities for children and young people
- And much more…
How these ideas evolve will depend on what you, the people of Bodrum peninsula want. So please take a few minutes to complete the survey.
For more information about the project, or if you'd like to help, email the team at

Most foreign property owners in Turkey are not aware that a Turkish will is required to ensure easy transition of their title deeds to their benefactors. An experienced sworn translator is sufficient and more economical for drawing up your will. |
|
If one should pass away without a Turkish will in place indicating who they wish to inherit their assets, the property may be held by Turkish government and any heir(s) may need to take legal action to prove their right to claim these assets.
While a will in one's own country will provide evidence in their support, this could be a long-winded process involving bureaucracy and red tape.
By making a will in Turkey you are over-riding the automatic rules and ensuring that the person/s you want to gift your property to can claim it and avoid other parties from.... Continue reading this article online, HERE

Wanna see the best view around Bodrum? Then come and climb the highest mountain! Located on the north-eastern part of Bodrum peninsula are two peaks, close in both proximity and height. Kara Dağ ("Black Mountain") and Oyuklu Dağ ("Mountain with Caves"), rise up to modest elevations of 609 and 690 metres. These offer not only panoramic views but an interesting and beautiful journey.
Taking narrow trails through pine forests, it takes about two hours to reach the summit of Kara Dağ. As long as you are reasonably fit, these mountains are a feast for the senses, a sanctuary for the soul, and a hearty physical workout. Forget the gym – come and conquer a mountain instead, and enjoy the unspoiled beauty of this serene and protected part of the Bodrum peninsula. It's recommended that you... continue reading this article online, HERE

Perhaps slightly unseasonal, but a reader question prompted me to pull together some information on Blue Flag beaches around Bodrum.
There are 33 Blue flag beaches scattered around, from Bodrum, to Torba, to Yalıkavak and Gümüşlük, for more information, and to view where they are on a map, please read the full article HERE.

Winter is slowly coming and, as the tourists leave, there seem to be more street animals around. With this in mind, we've got two requests for help this issue.

As we all know there are still too many (poor) cats and dogs on the streets of the Bodrum Peninsula. On top of all the good work done for many years by many of you, we, as volunteers in the Yalıkavak area, would like to give our contribution and ask you now for your help and donations.
Last Sunday we sold clothes, household stuff etc at the Bitez Pazar and we collected 263TL!!! It is a good beginning...
This money will be spent to donate dog food to a mother dog in our area with her 7 puppies. Before finding new homes for the puppies we will make sure they will be neutered. The rest of the money will be donated to our local Vet to pay for medication, castration and flea drops etc for 5 puppies in our area that have all been homed over the past 15 days.
Our plan is to do this Bitez market on a regular basis and we kindly ask your help to provide us with saleable goodies, like 2nd hand clothes, books and anything else which we can sell. During these Sundays we can bring the homeless puppies to this market and find new good homes for them. Last Sunday and the Sunday before, 2 puppies found a home. All the money collected will be spent on the animals.
At the same time we are looking for volunteers to help as Foster parents for the puppies for short periods of time or help us out on Sundays during the Bitez market.
You may drop your donations like clothes etc at Animana in Yalıkavak or send an e-mail to us

If you have a question let us know. The full list of 74 Questions can be viewed on the website - HERE.
New Questions:
- Q73: We are thinking of switching from our ADSL internet service to a 'dongle'. Are dongles reliable in the Bodrum area, what are the costs and can anyone recommend good current deals?
A73:

- Q74: Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) of using ING bank here in Bodrum? If so, which branch (Oasis or town) and how do you rate their internet banking?
A73: I'm a customer of ING, I opened an account about 6 years ago when it was still OYAK. I started off using the Oasis branch, but moved to the Bodrum one because it was more convenient. It was a good move. The staff there are all very friendly (a couple of them speak a little English) and extremely helpful. Can't comment on their internet banking as I've had no occasion to use it. -- Carol A74:

New Answers:
- Q71: I am buying a car here in Turkey, and want to know if I must have a Turkish driving licence, or can I use my European driving licence? If I indeed need a Turkish driving licence, what is the procedure to get one, and how much does it cost?
A71: No you don't need a turkish licence. --James Rawson A71:
