Cheap International Phone Calls
There are lots of ways to get cheap phone calls to and from Turkey, most use the Internet in some way or another, and most rely on you having a good connection to the internet. However I was recently recommended a site called Web Call Direct (http://www.webcalldirect.com), which makes use of your internet connection, but only to initiate the call. It works very well, and between any two 'normal' phones.
For example, you can use it to ring between a Turkish Mobile and a UK land line.
Sample call rates:
- Turkish Mobile to UK Mobile (or vice versa): 11p/min
- Turkish Mobile to UK Land line (or vice versa): 4.8p/min
- Turkish Land line to UK Mobile (or vice versa): 7.4p/min
- Turkish Land line to UK Land line(or vice versa): 1.1p/min
The idea is fairly simple. Once you have created an account (and placed an initial credit of 10EUR), you simply go to their website, enter the number you wish to call from (e.g. your Turkish mobile number), and the number you wish to call (e.g. a UK number). once you hit 'call', the 'from' number will ring, when you answer, the 'to' number will ring, and the call will be connected. As soon as the call has been connected you do not need your internet connection.

Note: to calculate call costs, simply add together the costs for both parts of the call (i.e. the cost for the 'from' number, plus the cost for the 'to' number).
