Usually, digital cameras are set to take photographs at their highest resolution - this is great for capturing lots of detail, and for producing great prints, however, when you want to share these with your friends or send them via email, you should consider reducing the size, this will enable you to send more photos much faster and with much fewer problems. To give you an example, most modern cameras are somewhere between 5 and 15 "megapixels", these typically produce images between 5MB and 10MB. If you were to email like this, it'll take you a long time to send the email, and there's a good chance that it will 'bounce' back, or give you an error, it also takes your recipient a long lime to download the image. When emailing, you should aim to send a photo that's under 500KB. Now, let's look at how you can easily resize, and send a photo, or a group of photos in Windows based computers. There are two easy methods - the second looks longer, but is more advanced, but is just a 2-click process once it's setup. - If you use Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, or any other non-web based email system:
- Browse your computer, and locate the image you wish to send on the hard drive.
- Click once to select the image (or click while holding down CTRL to select more than one image)
- Right click over the selected file(s)
- Select "Send To> Mail Recipient". You should now see a box appear where you can select a size.
- Click "Show more options" (Windows XP only)
- Experiment with the sizes, but for now, choose "Medium",and click "Attach" or "OK"
- Your photo(s) will now be resized, and a new email message will appear with your resized photos automatically attached.
- If you use a web-based email system, or are just looking to resize your images for yourself, try this solution, which uses "Prish Image Resizer":
- Download Prish Image Resizer from HERE
- Locate the file you downloaded, and run to install Prish (accept the default install options)
- Browse your computer, and locate the image you wish to send on the hard drive.
- Click once to select the image (or click while holding down CTRL to select more than one image)
- Right click over the selected file(s)
- Select "Prish Resizer", then "Resize"
- Select "Add to the name of the file (for example img_666_Large.jpg)"
- Experiment with the sizes, but for now, choose "Medium 1024"
- Click "Set Defaults" (note next time you can just choose "Prish Resizer", then "Resize to..." at step 6 and miss step 7, 8, 9, and 10!)
- Click Resize
- The re-sizing has now taken place, in the folder where your photo(s) were located, you should see a new version of the photo suffixed ...Large.jpg Simply use this version to upload or attach to your email.
