Q97: Buying Tax Free Car
Q97: I know that as a foreigner, it's possible to buy a new car in Turkey without paying OTV (VAT), however my local Fiat garage did not know anything about it. I also know that many people advise against this, but can anyone clarify the current situation and drawbacks?
NEW: A97.1: Generally the requirement is to have a residence permit and a work permit. You have to deposit an amount in a bank (probably the equivelent of the value of the car) the amount set by the Turkish Touring Organisation. You can't touch this money but you can use the interest. You can only sell it to another suitable foreigner. There is also a lot of paperwork! Have a look here at: blueplatecar.com which has lots of useful information about "Blue-Plate" cars in Turkey. --Lyn
