q122: Best Buying Advice?

Q122: I have found a house I would like to buy in Bodrum - what constructive advice could you give me if you could me for the buying process?

A122.1: Unfortunately you may hear many stories about buying problems in Turkey, but probably the most common problems relate to the TAPU (title deeds). So the biggest tip I can offer is to ensure that you don't hand over the full payment until you have received your TAPU (with the correct house value in Lira on), and your Iskan (habitation certificate). If everything is in order, the agent will have no objection to this - if you start to hear excuses - be suspicious! Use an independent solicitor too - not the one that the agent recommends! --Editor

NEW: Q122.2: I would suggest employing the services of a good (independent) English speaking lawyer. The last thing you want is misunderstandings or misinterpretations when such large amounts of money are at stake. This link should help: HERE --Peter
