Q129: Buying a house in a military zone

Q129: I'm in the process of buying a house in an area of Bodrum where the only way of acquiring ownership is by establishing a limited company (due to military restrictions). This implies submitting various documents to the authorities annually according to certain rules and deadlines. Although there will only be a handful of transactions every year (renting), some accountancy support will be required as the forms are in Turkish and certain laws apply. A rough Internet check shows that accountancy firms charge TL 2-300 monthly to do a company's accounting. Obviously regular companies have a lot of transactions every day which makes this charge understandable. However, in my case the workload will be dramatically smaller. My question is therefore if anybody could recommend somebody to help me with this at a price that reflects the workload. Perhaps there are people out there in the same situation.

A129: The loophole in Turkish Law which allowed foreign nationals to purchase property in military restristriced areas by forming a company was closed over two years ago. Only Turkish citizens may purchase in restricted areas. I am an Estate Agent in the Bodrum area and still come across foreign buyers who are being given misinformation either by professionals unaware in the change of law, or by unscrupulous 'professionals'. Buyers should take the advice of a recommended solicitor. --Kim.
