Mireille’s Galette des Rois
For a Kids’ Party (not necessarily at Epiphany, for which it is traditional in France):
Bake a cake stuffed with cherries and kirsch. Decorate with a gold paper crown. Furnish the kids with gold paper crowns and keep popcorn on the sizzle. The luckiest grown-up gets hit on the head by a champagne cork and the kids get gold-foil chocolate coins. This party should be held on a boat.
