Frigate Ertuğrul Ottoman Shipwreck exhibition
18-31 October 2010
Institute of Nautical Archaeology
The artefacts and remains recovered from the excavation of the Frigate Ertuğrul will be exhibited in the Institute of Nautical Archaeology, Bodrum.
The Frigate sank in Japan on the 16th of September, 1890 while returning from a goodwill mission initiated by Sultan Sultan Abdülhamit II. The INA and BOSAV foundations support the Ertuğrul project, the excavation, conservation and exhibition of the collection. The artefacts presented here represent a portion of the numerous gifts sent from the Imperial Japanese house to the Ottoman Empire, ship's parts and personal belongings of the 609 crew members; more than 500 of whom were lost in the accident.
The exhibit will be open between October 18-31, Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5pm. Organized visits for groups, schools or other educational purposes are welcome and special events or visits can be arranged.
