Welcome |
Welcome to the fifth issue from soggy Bodrum. Of course, an issue won't be complete without a new section or two, so without any delay, let's look at the "What's New" and "Discounts" sections. The "What's New" section is a place for anything that's new on the Peninsula - whether it's somewhere to eat, shop or see, let us know about it and we'll report it here. We hope you'll enjoy the Discounts section. Put simply, it's a list of businesses which have agreed to give Bodrum Bulletin readers a discount. All businesses are welcome, so if you know of a business which would like to be listed in each issue, let us know so everyone can enjoy it! As always, don't forget that we welcome your comments and suggestions for improvements, and if you have something to contribute, don't be shy - let us know. |

Spyware, Malware and other Nasties OK, so the next stop on our quest for a clean and tidy PC is handling all those 'nasties' with scary names... spyware, adware, malware, trojans, hijackers, keyloggers, spybots, trackware, worms, and dialers. Depending on your virus and security packages, the chances are that you won't be fully protected from all of these, so don't assume you're safe just because you have a virus scanner - these nasties are (usually) not considered as Viruses. There are lots of different types of spyware protection, but I'm going to talk you through one of the best free programs out - Spybot Search and Destroy. It's a 'passive' application that you are required to run manually when you want - so it won't take up any system resources, won't slow your PC down, and won't conflict with anything you already have installed. So you're safe to follow this guide no matter what software you have. To read the article, click HERE.

Our first recipe this week comes from "The Torba Cook", and is for a delicious Lemon Curd Quick Lemon Curd - ideal for all the cheap lemons!
from The Sausage King Well I have started to notice a nip in the air; it definitely seems to be getting colder. So here is one of my favourite dishes, very quick very simple and totally delicious French Onion Soup. Method By now you should have a stodgy mixture of dark brown onions in the bottom of your pan. Now add the flour and mix in all the lumps and add the beef stock, bring to the boil and you will notice that it has thickened the soup, now add seasoning to your taste. Ok we are on the final stretch, ¾ fill your soup tureens or bowls with the soup and then place your toasted bread and grated cheese on top, pop in the oven till the cheese has melted and bubbling about ten minutes, voila, serve it piping hot and you have a wonderful winter warmer. Q & A

|
If you have a question about any aspect of life in Bodrum, let us know and we'll post it to this section as an open question. But here's the important bit - we need your help to answer the open questions; so please don't be embarrassed - send us your questions, and answers. New Questions: Q19: Has anyone discovered any materials in Bodrum suitable for improving the sound proofing through a shared block partition wall? Q18: Does anyone know of someone willing to be a 'Leader' for a just-for-fun line dancing group? Unanswered Questions:
Q17: Our TAPU (title deeds), has the "Kat Irtifaki" box ticked. Can anyone tell
me what this means, what the implications are, and if applicable - how to change this; we
believe we have a copy of the habitation certificate. Q15: Does anyone have seeds or cuttings of Chilean Jasmine (Mandevilla laxa) or
M. splendens 'Alice du Pont' that they want to get rid of, or know where I can get
some?
Q14: I have a Panasonic CD player which I bought over from the UK. Since I
transported it a 'click' has developed when it plays CDs. Does anyone know where I can
get this looked at or fixed? Q12: Can anyone recommend a good English speaking solicitor to give us some
advice on making a will - we have 2nd marriages with 2 lots of children so it's rather
complicated!
Q10: What costs are involved with obtaining a habitation certificate - I am being
charged 1350TL for a property on Alexander Hills - is this normal? New Answers: Q16: Does anyone know if there is a Christian Church in Bodrum? Q13: Has anyone found a way to get from Izmir airport to the bus station (and
vice versa) without using a taxi? Q6: Does anyone know the best way to clean a marble work surface? Old Questions:

Just one 'bumper' crossword this week with household items - a bit of a mix in here - but an excellent one for anyone with a new house! As always, the clue is a Turkish word, the answer is the translated word into English. For example, if the clue is "Merhaba", the answer is "Hello". Note that the crosswords are designed to be filled in online, but each page has a link to print versions if you prefer a printed version. Have fun! New crosswords: Archived crosswords: |
