| Summer Hangover | |
|
The first of our features this week comes from reader Ceylan.
|
|
| Turgutreis Cats | |
|
And our second feature is from Cecilia Sev. A sage once said, “There is no such thing as an ordinary cat”, and that I firmly believe. I’m not sure what it is about cats that I find so irresistible. Yes, they are cute and cuddly, but it’s more than that. Maybe it is the sense of dignity they exude, their apparent pride regardless of their often dire circumstances or maybe it is their inscrutable gaze that leaves you wondering how wise they really are. Turgutreis, my home for 6 months each year has many homeless cats. So when I am there I keep a bag of “yummies” in my purse and I dole out treats to the cats I meet on my way in and out of town. I also share my terrace with “My Cats” five in all. At least I call them “My Cats” but strictly speaking they are not mine. Either they belong to an absentee owner or they are homeless but collectively they belong in the Site where I live. However when I am in Turgutreis, there is
no doubt; they are “My Cats”.

Q & A |
|
If you have a question about any aspect of life in Bodrum, let us know and we'll post it to this section as an open question. But here's the important bit - we need your help to answer the open questions; so please don't be embarrassed - send us your questions, and answers. I'm still working on a way to organise these a bit better on the website - so please bear with me! For the meantime, please use the website search facility (top right of every page) to help you find content. New Questions:Q63: I was hoping to find out if there is a proper health food shop here in Bodrum or near surrounding area - similar to those in the UK with the weird milks, flours, grains, beans, seaweeds and vitamins and tinctures as I haven't been able to find one. Also does anyone know where you can buy celery all year round or is it only seasonal here. Also is there anywhere that has parsnips, swedes, sweet potatoes, sugar snap and mange tout or do they not have them here in Turkey? Q62: I have been using a digital camera for several years but would like to learn how to make the most of the camera (and possibly photo editing software like Photoshop). Does anyone know of any courses for this? Q61: I need to buy a residency permit to have the phone installed. I know it is possible to get a 3 month permit, however, I have read that it is possible to obtain a permit for a week or shorter which would be better for me. Can anybody confirm if this is true? Or do you know where I can find out? Q60: I have a holiday home near Tuzla. I need to pay my property taxes in Milas. Is it possible to make the payment from America?
New Answers: Q59: Does anyone know if there is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool between 20-25m long - I would be looking to use it 2 times a week purely for exercise purposes so it needs to be not too crowded. I know about the Devlet swimming pool in Gümbet, but also that it costs 100TL per month - which is extremely expensive. Can anybody help with an alternative?
Unanswered Questions: Q58: I bought my apartment off a builder and received my TAPU in 2006. I also paid the builder to get a Habitation Certificate however, he has now gone bust, and I do not have the certificate! Does anyone know if I can continue the already started process, or if I have to start again, can anyone explain step-by-step as to how I get a habitation certificate? Q57: I had a container of household effects shipped here when I arrived in Turkey, for which I paid taxes and a deposit on entry. I am now looking to leave Turkey and head back to the UK. I would like to leave the house furnished and give away a lot of my stuff so that I don't have to pay to ship it all to the UK. I realize that my deposit would be forfeited (1,600TL). I have been told that if I don't renew the permit for my household effects they triple the deposit amount and fine me. They say "what comes into Turkey must go out", but does anyone know what happens if I leave Turkey leaving behind everything I paid tax and the deposit on? Q56: Has anyone seen Condensed Milk (or an equivalent), available
anywhere over here (I know you can get it from Kos, but was looking for
somewhere a little more local!) Q53: Has anyone started the process of getting their Tapu changed to
Kat Mulkiyet? If so, what is the procedure? What documents are required and do
they need to be originals or copies? Does the new Tapu have to collected at
some future point from the deeds office? As 100,000's of new documents are
going to have to be issued, is there going to be a massive
backlog??
